Barbra Streisand
The O2 Centre
By Yohanna Jacobsson
It is not often you come across tickets that are like gold dust. Tickets that make people's jaw drop whenever mentioned. These were the type of tickets I got my hands on a few days ago. The tickets were of the exclusive kind to the final show at the O2 Arena of the Barbra Streisand European tour.
The show itself was very simple and elegant. Two orchestras were lowered into the middle of the floor and a little table and a high chair were all the props that were used. To fill a big stage like that takes a great performer and Babs did a wonderful job of almost making the show seem intimate even tough the 20000 capacity arena was practically filled. A little bit too much chatting in between songs made the show seem very long and not filled with enough music. The unexpected proposal during the Q&A bit of the show was a wonderful touch but it all seemed a bit pre-planned, unfortunately I did not discover the teleprompter until later so I could not check to see if that was the case.
Even though Barbra Streisand is one of few original divas (and I use that word with the best of intentions) that is left, she was more then happy to interact with the audience and even kicked her shoes off after the intermission.
It is easy to see how she got to where she is today. An actress/singer with 47 years experience, starting out in the theatre, moving into film and finally conquering the music stage as well; she knows what she is doing. She sings with such feeling that you can not help to be moved. I think I might even have shed a tear.
